Make 365: Day 15 - Paint Chip Embroidery

I get a lot of inspiration from seeing what other artists do, like Lisa Solomon, who embroiders paint chips. You know - those sample cards in Home Depot in about a million different shades? It's a very clever, creative idea, and something that almost anyone can do, but most people never have.

I love stuff like that - new ideas from mundane places.

Day 15 - Paint Chip Embroidery

NEED

Some paint chips (From Home Depot, natch)
Needle + Thread

Sketch out a design. Its fun to play with the name of the color on the card.

Poke some holes through the sketch. These are going to be the guides for the thread. Poke from the front to the back, since it pushes the card out a bit. All the messy pencil can get erased.

Sew it up!

There's a lot that can be done with this. This guy was inspired by Ryoanji, with mini thread rocks and ripples.
